Nova's CEO features in The Economist

Nova Innovation, a trailblazer in the renewable energy sector, recently featured in an article in The Economist, showcasing the groundbreaking new SEASTAR tidal energy project. Through interviews conducted with The Economist, Nova’s CEO Simon Forrest sheds light on the project’s revolutionary potential and the value of EU-UK collaborations.

As a publication renowned for its thought leadership and influence, The Economist’s recognition reaffirms the importance of Nova’s leading role in the marine energy sector. Their equation of ‘Insight + innovation + influence = impact’ resonates deeply with our approach at Nova as we strive to drive meaningful change in combatting climate change.

The collaboration between Nova and The Economist shows the significance of our SEASTAR project in driving forward global sustainability efforts. We are delighted to collaborate with The Economist to share our experiences and insights on working with EU organisations. Together we are leading the charge towards a more sustainable future, powered by clean, predictable energy.”
— Simon Forrest, CEO of Nova Innovation

SEASTAR is Nova’s newest and largest project to date, having been awarded €20 million in funding from Horizon Europe and UKRI. It will deliver a 4MW array of 16 tidal turbines – the most turbines ever deployed globally, at the EMEC Fall of Warness site in Orkney.

The Economist’s dedication to insightful analysis and progressive ideas mirrors our own ethos of pushing boundaries and embracing innovation for a sustainable future. With their support, we’re empowered to amplify our efforts and accelerate the transition towards renewable energy solutions.

By allocating resources towards renewable energy projects like SEASTAR, companies are actively channelling resources into initiatives that prioritise environmental conservation, social responsibility and long-term economic viability. Investment in projects like SEASTAR not only demonstrates the viability and importance of renewable energy solutions in combatting climate change, but also a commitment to shaping a better world for future generations.

The SEASTAR project also exemplifies Nova’s commitment to ESG (Environmental Social Governance) principles. We recognise the urgent need to mitigate climate change and preserve natural resources, considering environmental and social sustainability in all our tasks. This includes helping to build local economies and supporting skills development in regions where projects are implemented, leading to the betterment of those involved in the project and wider community. We also operate with full transparency to build trust among locals and stakeholders.

As Nova continues to push the boundaries of renewable energy technology, we remain committed to driving positive change on a global scale. The SEASTAR tidal energy project stands as a testament to Nova’s dedication to powering a better future.
