Nova Completes Tidal Turbine Maintenance during Storm Éowyn

Despite the challenging conditions of Storm Éowyn, Nova managed to successfully complete scheduled maintenance operations on the Shetland Tidal Array at the end of January.  This demonstrates Nova’s ability to deploy and maintain tidal turbines year-round in all weather conditions.

Using Nova’s LARS (Launch and Recovery System), the turbine nacelles were retrieved from the seabed, serviced onshore and efficiently redeployed within 10 days. The LARS, designed in-house by Nova, incorporates specialised equipment and sensors that make offshore operations quicker, safer and more efficient.

Nova’s Chief Production Officer, Willie Rowell adds: “Recovering, servicing, and redeploying multiple turbines in the midst of Storm Éowyn is a testament to our team and our technology. Having the ability to carry out operations all year round in such challenging conditions is key to delivering predictable, clean energy from the sea.”

The Shetland Tidal Array has been powering Shetland since 2016 and continues to play a pivotal role in Nova’s mission to harness the power of the sea and provide clean, predictable energy for our clients.
