Chancellor of the Exchequer Visits Nova

On Wednesday, Nova Innovation welcomed Chancellor of the Exchequer, The Rt Hon Nadhim Zahawi MP, to our Headquarters in Leith. With rising energy prices impacting the UK, the Chancellor visited Nova to learn more about tidal energy, our world-leading tidal technology and route to market for the industry.

As well as viewing our subsea turbines in operation at our Tidal Turbine Control Centre and turbine construction in our manufacturing facility, The Chancellor spoke to employees across the company about their roles at the cutting edge of renewable engineering and the passion they have for making a positive difference.

Scotland is currently leading the world in tidal energy and Nova is at the forefront of this green industrial revolution. As well as developing projects across the UK, Nova has delivered its first turbine in Canada, demonstrating the global potential of this new source of clean, predictable energy. Tidal energy is already creating jobs and economic benefit across the UK and with the right support, the full potential can be realised.

Nadhim Zahawi, Chancellor of the Exchequer said:

“The UK Government is committed to renewable technologies as part of our pledge to create a clean, secure, and sustainable energy supply. Companies like Nova Innovation are going to be at the forefront of fostering UK energy security, and our transition to Net Zero. I was impressed by my visit to Nova’s facilities in Edinburgh and I want to wish the business every future success.”

With record-high energy prices triggering the cost-of-living crisis, there is a growing need for the UK to develop homegrown, natural resources for security of supply. The UK is holding the ace cards for tidal energy and played correctly, we can capture the global opportunity.
